You’re moving into a home with home security alarms
A new home may come with an existing home security system. All the alarms and cameras function well, are placed in the right spaces, and are ready to go. In this case, just pick up the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint installer will still show up to ensure there are no integration issues, and they could offer options on upgrades. It's a preliminary visit, and you can have your alarm monitoring set up without paying for any new devices -- unless you get some new devices.
The old owners can move an existing Vivint contract to your family for a small transfer fee to make the process simpler. If the outgoing residents are downsizing to an apartment or retirement community, turning over the Vivint service might be a condition of the sale.
You need to move and take your home security equipment with you
You may want to take your old Vivint system with you to a new house when you move. That’s pretty simple to do, as most alarms and smart devices are wireless. You can remove each device yourself or contact a Vivint expert to take down everything. Then an expert will put in the same devices -- and any smart items you need to add -- in your new place. And your home security contract will remain the same.
